What is rent to rent?

For those not in the know, the rent to rent business model has seen massive growth in the past few years. 

Rent to rent is so attractive because it operates by leveraging other people's properties (and the underlying lending). No longer does one have to save up thousands for a large deposit, and then jump through dozens of hoops to get approved for a buy to let mortgage. 

Not only that, but because you're aiming for larger properties that can be operated as HMOs (houses in multiple occupancy), your cashflow is potentially very strong.
